The Healthy Community Initiative is a Johns Hopkins University student-driven health education group that provides monthly health-related workshops to parents and kids at the Waverly Elementary/Middle School. Past workshops have covered diabetes, heart health, nutrition info and reading nutrition labels, exercise, and various complications that arise from an unhealthy lifestyle such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and obesity. We are always looking to update our information and provide first-hand examples through food demos, activities, and games.
Students receive training in the fall and work in teams throughout the semester to create and administer workshop modules. We utilize resources such as the American Diabetes Association and various student groups to provide a great learning experience for the community.
